Genevieve & Friends

It was a busy weekend here at casa del Maio, as the masses came to meet baby Genevieve. Ok, maybe not the masses but our good friends the Harms' and the Kroenings made looooong drives to Tosa to meet our new addition, and we were joined by the Bansemars (see 'Baby's First Fundraiser, below). We've all been friends for 7 or 8 years now, and it's been really fun for us all to go through life's little adventures on curiously similar schedules (graduate, buy houses, get engaged, get married, and now...have babies!). What a difference a year makes - just last spring we went to Mexico with Scott & Anna and Kyle & Robin...just a year and a half later our group of 6 has turned into 9. Scott & Anna have 10 month old Ethan, Kyle & Robin have 5 month old Miles, and now of course baby Genevieve has joined the group. She's going to have to learn to hold her own against those boys! The dads spent the weekend revisiting their glory days glued to Play Station 3, and the moms spent the weekend swapping trade secrets and taking many, many photos. It was very reassuring to spend time with other new parents and realize that we're not scrweing Genevieve up too much. Yet.

Our Wee Butterball

The fastest four weeks of our lives have come and gone and Genevieve is already one month old. At her four week appointment we discovered that she has mysteriously shrunk to 21 3/4 inches but is coming in at the "I don't miss a meal" weight of 10 lbs 7 oz. She is getting bigger and stronger every day, is able to hold her head up during the dreaded 'tummy time', and we have a grand master plan for longer hours of sleeping at night (insert rookie parent joke here, right?). The plan will have to wait a few days though as daddy is out of town for work until - gasp - Thursday night. That's right, it's just me and the meatloaf, along with our trusty attack poodle, for the next few days. Time to test this new mom's mettle!

Baby's First Fundraiser

It was a gorgeous weekend here in 'Tosa and Genevieve spent Sunday at her first fundraiser - the local walk to fight ALS. We were proud to walk as part of Team Bansemar, both with and in honor of Mary. It was 78 degrees and sunny, and with about 1,500 participants the Walk was a great success.

Although a terrific day, it did start off with a common theme in the Maio household: poo. A flock of geese flew overhead just before the walk began, and some members of our team were left a little green.

No good deed goes unpunished. BTW, goose poo does not respond to Shout Wipes.

The walk really took it out of Genevieve

Major props to Melissa for organizing the whole team. We were proud to help raise money for research against this disease.

Good Times

Well it's been a regular wild ride here in the Maio household as of late. Of course there are the normal things like the unmistakable smell of a new baby and fun times with projectile vomiting, and there are rare occasions like the Brewers play off games. In the end they couldn't hold it together, but it made for some good photos from Matt & Shawn.

Look Ma, I got tickets!

Hey good lookin'!

Is that an empty beer cup in his hand? Shocking.

Hanging out with 45,000 of your closest friends

Upon his defeated return home on Sunday, Matt reported having seen a smoldering Suppan t-shirt in the parking lot. Given his first inning performance who can blame a fan?

Back at the ranch, Miss Genevieve has been doing well. Aside from a few instances with some pretty impressive vomiting she's been a happy little camper. Grandpa Martin came to visit last weekend and take Grandma home, and he and G spent a little time hanging out together. Also her belly button emerged on Sunday and so last night she got a proper bath in her little tub.

Go Brewers!

My husband may self destruct at any moment. It's been such an action-packed last two weeks, the adrenaline is causing him to have the shakes. It all started of course with the birth of Miss Genevieve, followed by the Brewers v. Cubs game on Sunday which he and Shawn were at (you know, the very last game of the season when they clinched the wild card?), and today just amps it up that much more as the Brewers play October ball for the first time since (say it with me now) 1982.

While dad was at the game on Sunday, Genevieve did her best to cheer on her team.

Sticking her tongue out at the Mets

Since the Crew won on Sunday, daddy-o has requested that she sport this ensemble again today. Fortunately I am now doing about 42 loads of laundry a day so that is no problem.

In other news, bath time has taken a major turn for the better. She seems darn near happy to be clean.

The curls may come through yet!

Genevieve and Ralphie are also becoming BFF's. He's very gentle with her and where the baby goes, he follows.

Snuggle buddies

And now I must excuse myself, as the wee meatloaf is beckoning. More to come soon!
