Celebrating 'Merica

We had a great July 4 weekend this year.  Since it fell on a Thursday we stayed in town to enjoy the neighborhood festivities before heading up nort'.  The Elm Grove Junior Guild puts on a big party during the day at Elm Grove Park, with all the kiddie requirements: jumpy houses, fire trucks, games, food, popsicles, races, etc.  Matt stayed home with Luke while he snoozed and I took G down to check out the goings on.  Then of course it was back to the park that night for fireworks!

is it hot in here or is it just me?

waiting with her buddy mitchell for the "5 & under' foot race.  i thought she would be really competitive about it but total opposite...she started strong then slowed down basically to watch the other kids run by her
staked out our spot, noshing on ice cream, ready for it to get dark
lukie was pretty intense with the glow sticks
i beat you, daddy!
let's thwap this tree!
G once again loved the fireworks.  L...not so much.  As soon as the first couple went off he pointed to the wagon and very worriedly yelled "Go!  Go mama!"...actually it was more like, "Doh! Doh mama!"  Either way, dude wanted nothing to do with it.  So Matt had to hold him the whole time.  Poor little man!  I suspect life will be different this time next year.

We took our time heading up to the cottage Friday morning for the rest of the weekend.  The weather was awesome - truly could not have been better for a long holiday weekend.

We went on a million boat rides, played in the water, ate to the point of explosion, and little Lukie spent the entire weekend chatting away.  Most popular phrases included - in Lukie-speak - "shand", "all wet", "wa-dee", "boat", and the cutest of them all "whee fun".
